Ministerial. The Minister of Railways (Mr W. B. Taverner) returned to Dunedin on Saturday evening from the north. He will leave on Wednesday morning for Wellington to attend a meeting of the Cabinet. Mr A. G. Neill left by the mid-day express on Saturday for a short visit to Auckland on business, Mr J. Skottowe Webfc, now of Christchurch, returned north by the mid-day express on Saturday, after a holiday in Dunedin. Mr W. H. Ferens left on Saturday morning for the North Island to visit relatives. He was accompanied by Mrs Ferens. Mr 6. A. Troup, Mayor of Wellington, who was a visitor to the Royal Show at Invercargill, arrived at the Grand Hotel on Saturday. He will leave for Wellington this morning. Dr E. Marsden has been appointed to be a member of the Board of Governors of the New Zealand Institute in place of the late Dr G. Chilton. A Press Association cable message from London states that Sir James Parr (High Commissioner) and Professor Gowlaad, of Dunedin, were among the special guests at the Australian and New Zealand Medical Association's dinner. Mr Charles Wilson, ex-parliamentary librarian, who has been in ill-health for some time, and who underwent a serious operation recently, is now reported to be progressing favourably. ■Mr E. C. Lewey, SM., who has been appointed resident magistrate at Invercargill, will leave Christchurch on Tuesday, but he will not take up his new duties until the second or third week in January.
