(From Our Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, December 12. • HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. adjourned. aimugl meeting of the Balclutha Horticultural Society, Mr B. Allan was re-elected president,' and Mr R. R. Grigor vice-president. The following committee was elected:—Mesdames Landele, Mitchell, James Guest, Miss M. Dallas (Balclutha), Mrs Durham (Kaitangata) Messrs R. M'Clintoek, E. Naish D. M. Henderson, ,A. L. Shepard, G! Guest, G, Clinch, J. T. Sinclair, John Sinclair." and A, Rooney. Eulogistic reference was made to the services" "of Mr" Clinch at secretary and he was voted a sum of three guineas. Regret was also expressed at Mr Clinch’s departure from the district. It was decided" to leave the secretaryship open in the meantime. THE WEATHER AND DAIRYING. . Warm 'muggy weather with occasional heavy rain showers has been experienced this week. It is good growing weather, and pastures have • benefited ' greatly. Dairy cows are at the high peak" of production. and it.it considered likely‘that this will be a record season for local factories. Agents report that the demand forjgood dairy ..cows continues good,-and there seems little doubt that this .is a branch of farming, that will continue to grow as far as this district is concerned. A year or two ago, when the sheep boom was at its height, several dairy farmers sold their herds and purchased sheep, but since then the- lamb and wool markets have fluctuated .so much that dairying has been a remarkably stable industry by comparison.
