ATTITUDE OF AUCKLAND. COMMITTEE OFFERS CONCESSIONS. (Pxb United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 5. _ The adjourned meeting of the New Zealand Cancer Campaign Committee ' took place yesterday to consider changes in rules suggested by Auckland. '• Dr Elliott^president) said the prinoipal matter at issue was Aether there should be a central controlling body, .or -- * whether each division should have complete autonomy. ‘ The parent body in the - Old Country held that there should be. central control in such matters to prevent, overlapping, and loss of efficiency in research work. -. ■ • ' The principle of equal representation of the divisions was generally approved* and it wais decided to recommend an 1 alteration of the rules so as to"' provide ■ that three . delegates , should be appointed on the Central ‘ Committee by each division, the Mayors of the four chief cities, and the chairmen of the, four . chief hospital -hoards to be ex-cmcio members of the committee, deputy delegates to be appointed when necessary. Mr £hirtcliffe asked if, in view of the alteration now recommended in the rules, Auckland people would desire complete autonomy. Dr Elliott: said that if the representatives would go back to Auckland and explain that the constitution of the Cen-■ tral Committee had .been altered to meet their desire for equal representation of the divisions, Auckland might come into line; -if not, it would be a great pity, as Auckland would cut Itself off from the Imperial Cancer Campaign, and lose all the. prestige and inspiration to be derived from association with the movement. . The Auckland delegates ’ said they would put the considerations before the . Auckland people, and they felt confident that whatever misunderstanding might have existed would be cleared up.
