ART TREASURES
EXHIBITION IN LONDON. ITALY’S GREAT CONTRIBUTION. (British Official Wireless.) (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) RUGBY, December 4. (Received Dec. 5, at 5.5 p.m.) Italy yesterday despatched her great contribution of art treasures to the forthcoming exhibition of Italian art at Burlington House, London. There were 300 pictures, of which 230 are old and 70 modern, together with a wonderful collection of statues, old furniture/lace,' ivory, and bronzes. Fourteen specially constructed steel vans containing the cases were taken under escort from Milan to Genoa, where the contents were transferred to the specially chartered and appropriately named ship Leonardo da Vinci, which later sailed for London, accompanied by naval tugs. The exhibition, which will be opened on January 1, will last 'until March 8. In addition to Italy’s great contribution, King George and other British art lovers are lending works from their private collections, and the United States, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, and other countries arc contributing to the exhibition.
