MINING.

GOLDEN PROGRESS QUARTZ MINING COMPANY, LTD. The following is the report for November of the manager of the Golden Progress Quartz Mining Company, Ltd., Qturehua:— . • v Shaft.—Since my last report we have placed into position, the collar set, and have sunk a distance of 18 feet. -The number'of sets put in is 22. The ground in the bottom, and what we have passed through, is of the best class for reefs. We have cut through various reef formations showing very good minerals, and every indication of gold. In the westeriT end of the shaft now we-are cutting into a rubbly quartz formation about 20 inches wide. There is a fair amount of water coming in, so much so that wo have decided to remove the pump from tho other (prospecting) shaft and install it here. By doing this it will save a great amount of time which is lost by baling. While removing the pump I have taken out all skidways, ladders, pipes, and all loose timber.. We have saved by-doing this between 30 and 40 sets of timber for our main shaft. Tramline to Battery.—This has been excavated and formed for a total distance of 460 feet, and is now ready for laying rails. Road to Mine.—We have widened this in places and removed all' protruding boulders which were in the way. of carting. ■ j | 'Battery. —The excavating for this is about finished, also for the hopper, and the ground is almost cut out for the stamper box and bed 'log. ’ Messrs Becker and Nelson have secured four very good poppet legs. 40 feet long, of the very beat quality, and have had them delivered at the shaft site. Manager’s House and Huts.—Two good huts _ have been secured and placed in position at the mine, and are now partially occupied. The manager’s house is now upon the ground and ready for erecting. ■ PRICE OF FINE GOLD. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph— Copyright.) LONDON, December 3.
