The two-year-old Watch Officer, by Chief Ruler from Watchful, has Wn sold to an Australian buyer, and he will be ahipped to Sydney by an early steamer. -The price paid is understood to be 1500 guineas. Watch Officer showed his galloping ability when her won the Wellesley Stakes at Trcnthain last month. It is stated that a steward on the *teamcr Zealandia was tho holder of the number which drew Nightmarch in the Melbourne Cup sweep, the first prize attached 'to which was £20,000. As an act of safety, he laid off a certain sum. Though Star Stranger was not taken to the New Zealand Cup meeting, it will not be long before he is racing again, for be figures in both the chief handicap events at the Feilding meeting. In the Shade was galloped on in the >iew Zealand Cup. and he could not race again at the meeting. He will require a epell, but it is hoped that he will be at bia best for the Auckland Racing Club's summer meeting. If he is all right, he will have plenty of admirers for the Auckland Cup. It is reported from Taranaki that Silvermine has been allowed to take things easily since racing at Trentham. He figures in the sprint events at Feilding, and by the end of the month should be worth watching. Nightmarch's winning exploits have brought something more than prize money to the owner, Mr A. • Louisson, and trophies in the shape of gold cups came to the Canterbury sportsman as the result of the brown horse's victories in the Dunedin Cup, W. S. Cox Plate, and Melbourne Cup. The hurdler Glengariff waa destroyed at Ricearton on Thursday. He was working at halfpace on the plough when he auddenly stopped, and it was found that he was Buffering .from a broken snoulder. A post mortem examination revealed that the bone was badly shattered, probably brought about by the iall he suffered in Monday's hurdle race.
