The third card of the New Zealand Cun meeting was got off in pleasant weather land an excellent attendance turned out tor what is usually regarded as the " off ” | dav ot the meeting. The track was firm ana last, and an absence of wind assisted | the winners to make fast times, i Chide enhanced his reputation by win- | runs the Canterbury Cup without being ’ 'nib’ extended at the finish, but the time was not particularly fast. The result of I the race, however, showed that Chide had : % I’ ult in fke weights for the New Zealand Cup. It was doubtful if Concentrate would be sent to the post, as he moved short as a result of being galloped on udicn running in the New Zealand Cup. He finished gamely, however, and should "iu a good race over a distance before the season ends. A race record was equalled when Full feather won the Jockey Club Handicap. He went down very cramped in his preliminary, and, after being one of the last into the straight, non easilv at the finish. In running third Silver Paper showed : something like his best form, and is being ; improved by racing. | Eaglet was handled differenth- in the Oaka from what ahe was in th« Derby.

She was always near the front, and won nicely at the finish, but not with a great deal iu hand. “ ’ The coupled pair. Quarterdeck and Swoopalong, were made a short-priced favourite for the Suburban Handicap. Nincompoop and Swoopalong led out with Some Toff, but the latter was steadied. Dumblanc got sent back and lost several lengths. Nincompoop and Swoopalong led Rome Toff and The Viscount along the back and up to the far turn, where Dumblane was raced through the field and led into the straight, Dumblano led Some Toff to the distance, where the latter took charge and won by two lengths from Quarterdeck, who bent Aberfeldy by a neck. Dumblane finished close up fourth, and The Viscount was next. Dumblane was unlucky in getting badly away, and was then injudiciously raced up to the front and left without a finish. They went strongly for Kerbside and Princess Betty in the Spring Nursery Handicap, and anything else was showing a good price. Kerbside was first out with Merry Peel, and they led Princess Betty and Parysia to the straight. At the distance Princess Betty got alongside Kerbside and then came away to win comfortably hi’ two lengths from Pharaoh, who beat Ball Dress by a neck. Parysia was fourth. Kerbside stopped iu the last furlong. } i.iuia and Malmsey were slow to move in the Otaio Plate, and Dolomite led out with Latin Quarter, Amor, 'Money Mine, and Avrn. Dolomite, Latin Quarter, Avro and King’s Jest led Money Mine and Malmsey into the straight. Dolomite was still .in charge at the distance, and ridden out, s'.ailed o!f Latin Quaiter, and heat, him by a m-ck. Avro was a neck away third. Money Mine- was close up fifth, and Talisker was next. Yoma never made up the ground tost early in the race. The Canterbury Cup was regarded as a foregone conclusion, and Chide w:R backed accordingly, Hoylake made the running, with Count flavour and the others close up, with Chide going strongly and waiting behind the loaders. Uoylakc continued to show the way to the home turn, where Concentrate had dropped back last. Hoylake was still in charge coming to the distance, and then Chide. Concentrate, and Seutown joined him. Chide came away and won comfortably by three lengths easing up from Concentrate, who boat Seatown by half u length. Hoylake was close up fourth. There was not much pace on in the early stages. The first sis furlongs took Imin 22sec, a mile and a-qnarter 2min 14 3-ssec, and a mile and three-quarters 3min "see. Havering and Atholspear were taken out of the Jockey Club Handicap, which proved a good betting race between Toxeuma, Panther, Consent, and White Fang. They were in good line at the

rise of the barrier, but White Fang, Full heather, and Pride got badly away. Consent and Gold Cure soon showed out in tront, and the latter wont out to u lead Ironi Consent, Red Heckle, Toxeuma, Arrow Lad, and Silver Paper. Gold Cure was still out in .front going round the top and into the straight, where the held closed up. Arrow Lad was first to head oil the leader, and was in cliar-e inside the distance, looking all over winner, when Full Feather arrived with a. strong run, and, racing to the front, won by nearly two lengths Silver Paper was two lengths away third, just in troat °,L 1 . oxcunm > Gold Cure, and Consent. While hang's chance was hopeless i I'. f 1 , 10 ° ,ltset . «nd the hot pace set by Gold Cure made the task of the ton weights particularly hard. A strong i V U ‘'r ln 1 unther never looked dangerous, but loxeuma ran a good race under his weight. White Fang showed up on the outside at the bottom of the straight but the effort to get there settled him. The winners time was Imin 37 4-‘*3ec.'equal-ling the race record.
