AMATEUR SWIMMING.
MEETING OF OTAGO CENTRE. A meeting of the Otago Swimming Centre was held last night, the president (Mr J. L. M'ludoc) in tho chair. There were also present Messrs J. Lewis, B. R. Kerr, AA'. H. Buckland, R. Hector, E. G. James, AA 7 . Jenkins, B. Fletcher, D, Thomson, E. C. Isaacs, D. C. Baunatyne, and A. Grcig. CORRESPONDENCE. The secretary of the New Zealand Council wrote setting out reasons for tho non-inclusion of Otago in the itinerary of the Ryan and Grier tour, cud stating that Miss Jean Cocks, and Australia’s uext best lady swimmer, would bo touring the Dominion in February and March, which would give tho southern centres an opportunity of seeing these swimmers iu action.—Received. A letter was received from the town clerk, Dunedin, granting the usd of the baths for the provincial championship meeting on December 14. The writer also odvised that permission bad been given the centre to make use of the baths between 5.45 and 0.45 p.m. on AA 7cdnesdays for water-polo practice and cham•pionship training. MUNICIPAL BATHS A\ 7 ATER. A letter was received complaining of the state of the water in tho Municipal Baths, and as'bing tho centre’s co-opera-tion jn having the matter attended to.— It was decided to instruct tho secretary to write to the town clerk drawing his attention to the matter, and requesting that something be done towards having the water cleared. OTAGO CHAMPIONSHIPS. The, convener of the sub-committco set up to consider arrangements for the Otago championship meeting (Mr MTndoe) submitted a tentative programme, aud pointed Out that every endeavour had been made to eliminate such events as bad not proved to be attractions in previous years.—Tho programme was approved, and it was decided that the subcommittco be empowered to arrange the order of pvents ns soon as the entries arc received. The following officials were appointed to control tho meeting:—Local officer, Mr D. Baunatyne; superintendent. Mr J. L. MTndoe; referee, Mr IT. H. He'uderson; judges—Messrs P. N. Bundle, _E. H. James, and R. Hector; diving judges—Messrs AA 7 . Jenkins, E, G. James, and MTndoe; calculator, Air N. M. Sutherland; timekeepers—Messrs H. A. Hogg, T. P, AVilliainsoii, and !•’. J. Townsend; starter, Air AV. Jenkins; starter’s steward, Air N. Sutherland; timekeepers’ steward, Air E. J. James; press steward. Air C. Heaton; competitors’ stewards—Messrs A - . Fletcher, E. R. Kerr, and J. Fox; ladies’ steward. Airs E. G. James; mogaphonist, Air J. L. AlTndoe; result board steward, Air J. Lewis. GENERAL. It was decided that an "art union be held for the purpose of defraying the expenses of the Otago swimmers travelling to the Nc\v Zealand championships at Grcyinouth. ’ The date for the Batt Cup race was fixed for January 11 at 2.30 pan., and arrangements for the race were loft in the hands of the executive. Permission was granted for the Dun edin and Kiwi Clubs to hold carnivals in December and January respectively, and also for the latter club to hold a harbour race on December 21. The following were appointed to act as judges at tho primary schools’ championship meeting on November 25 and 20:—Alessrs Bannatyne, E. G, James, E. H. James, and Jenkins.
