NO INCREASE IN SALARIES
STATEMENT BY MINISTER,
(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.; WELLINGTON, November 7. there has been no increase in the salaries of the heads of departments this ac 9 ol J* n S to a statement made by the Minister of Justice (Mr T M. Wilford) iu the House of Representatives this evening Mr J. A. Nash (Reform member for Palmerston), during the dismission on the supplementary estimates ot the Department of Justice, asked whether provision had been made for an increase in the salary'of the Commissioner of Police.
“ 1 umte agree that the salary of the commissioner requires reviewing,” replied Mr Wilford. “ I stated so on the mam estimates, and I am still ot that opinion. The policy of the Government this year, however, is not to increase tin salaries of the top men. The commissioner, therefore, will have to wait ” Mr F._ Langstone (Labour member for ” amiarino): He is not doing so badly. Mr Wilford said it was impossible increase the salary of one bond of a department without increasing the lot. Mr Langstone: They don’t want it.
