“LONDON LOAN MYSTERY.”

MISLEADING PAMPHLETS

THEIR WITHDRAWAL RE

QUESTED,

(From Ooa Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, November 7. The recall of pamphlets in which the statement was made that Mr W. Downic Stewart, ex-Ministcr of Finance, had prevented the present Minister of Finance (Sir Joseph Ward) from going on the London market for two years was urged by Mr J. A. Nash (Reform member for Palmerston) in an urgent question to the Acting Leader of the House of Representatives' (Mr G. W. Forbes) to-day.

Mr Nash asked Mr Forbes whether he would take steps to stop the circulation of the pamphlets which contained speeches by Sir Joseph Ward and the Minister of Justice (Mr T. M. Wilford). the statements having since been withdrawn by both Ministers and regret expressed for making the statements. Mr Nash suggested that the pamphlets should bo withdrawn or sufficient notice given that the statements made were not true. Mr Wilford; You,cannot say not true.

Mr Nash: Well, I will say inaccurate. 1 am not asking this from a party point of view, but in fairness to Mr Stewart, who is held in high respect by all members of the House,

“ I understand the pamphlets referred to are reprints of Hansard,” replied the Acting-Leader of the House. “ All I can say is that I will refer the matter do tbe gentlemen concerned. I think an ample explanation has been offered in the House, and I am sure it will not be the wish of either gentleman that the pamphlets should be circulated if a false impression is conveyed. Mr Nash: Thank you.
