There ia one advantage the talkies have over the theatre—the deaf can hear the mechanically produced dialogue, whereas they cannot catch a word when spoken by actor or actress. One who has the misfortune to have lost her hearing entirely states what a- difference talkies had made to her. She could not explain it, but presumably it is due to some special treatment of the walls which carries sound into all parts of the house.
