MONTHLY MEETING. ! The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago A. and P. Society was held in the board room yesterday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs Janies 13egg (in the chair), G., Ross,-A ; MacEay,E. M. North, D. Andrew, J.-AV. Blair, H. Turner. 1). J: RoSs, R. T. Kirk, ■R. H. Edie,'J'., Hellycr,. A.' Johnson, J. Young, and’T. J. Gown.

Mr R. T. Kirk (Mosgiol) was. elected a member of tiie committee to' fill a vacancy on-the town district.

Accounts amounting t0.£149 ,15s Gd were passed for - pay melTt, , , ' , ' The St. Kilda Borough Council wrote advising that the society’s letter asking for its assistance in connection with the proposed extension of - the railway line into the show ground Ayas considered at a meeting, of .the council, which,'decided to appoint representatives to meet -the committee with a .view! to discussing the ■whole proposal. The council hoped that the committee would find no difficulty in arriving at a final decision.—The executive reported that a special meeting was held to consider . proposals submitted by Mr W. Richards, city tramway engineer, in. connection with the extension of th" present railway line into Talnina Park.— The chairman thanked Mr Richards for his trouble, and it was decided to arrange with representatives of .the Ocean Beach Domain Board, the St. Kilda Borough Council, and the society' to: .inspect the proposed line at as early a date as possible. 1 .

. The committee aho' reported that instructions had been given to Mr G. Simpsou do do the necessary repairs to the grand stand' at Tahuna Park. The. secretary submitted correspondence dealing with the fixing of show dates, and suggested that the show, should be held ,one day earlier, providing that the Forbury Park Trotting Club would agree —The report was adopted. ' . ’ The wuimitt’CG. appointed to, negotiate "'i*h the manufacturers in connection with the ptoposal to build jointly at Tahuna Park reported that authority had been received from a special general meeting to continue negotiations providing that the title deeds of Tahuna Park were not affected, that the society’s identity was retained, that.its liabilities were definitely defined, and that the Crawford, street property was sold before incurring anv definite, responsibility. The first two conditions were unanimously agreed to by both parties, the third was fully discussed, and the committee considered- that an amicable agreement could be arranged.' In regard to the fourth, the, committee had received a P offer for the building, and, owing to its central position, it was considered too valuable to be sacrificed. The question was fully dismissed by several members Mr D J Ross niaintaining that it would be possible to obtain a suitable site from the Harbour Board, and expressed an opinion that every should be made by the committee to obtain a more-suitable site. —The report was received, the chairman stating that this committee was still hi existence, and no doubt would give full Co !if' de J? tlo 'i to members’ opinions. ihe bhorthorn Society wrote offering a shield for the best shorthorn bull.—Received with thanks. ' Messrs Wright, l Stephenson, and Co., Ltd,, wrote' offering a, cup for competition on the, Aberdeen Angus. Hereford, and shorthorn .classes of registered cattle in tbe beef section, the cup to be won three times, not necessarily in Succession.—The otter was accepted with thanks. If was. decided to write to the Dunedin Stock Agents-and Woof Brokers’ Association'in reference to fixtures .during the slipw dates, and suggesting that the weekly Burnside, sale should be held either on Novertiber 26,’ or Thursday, the 28th, The committee also'' decided to suggest to the association' that'it might arrange for 7 a 'double sale , the week previous, and tlius avoid, any' clashing wit h show dates.’ : •

Mr H. C. Campbell wrote Applying for a months leave of absence, which was granted; and the secretary was instructed to-: convey the committee’s sympathies with him in his.. ill-health.

The Forbury Park Trotting Club wrote offering £lO 10s as special prizes to be allocated in- the trotting events.- —Received with thanks. ~ ' :

The Dunedin stock agents advised that they were now fixing an itinerary of sale dates throughout Otago, and • asked the committee to advise them of the dates of the various fixtures.-—After, some discussion it was decided that the , annual rani and ewe fair should ’be held on March 27, and the Winter Show on May 31, June 2; 3. 4, and 5, 1930. A letter was received, from Mr H. S. Jones containing a. number of .recommendations in connection with the competitions at the - forthcoming 'show.—lt was decided to refer'the proposals to the Light Horse . Committee, with a recom-

mendation .that it would _give favourable consideration to the various suggestions submitted.

.Mr A. Johnson brought .up the question of'the. charges for entry, fees, feeding, and attendance, on 1 stock at the Winter Show.—After a very full discussion it was decided that the fat cattle prizes be increased to £3, £2. and £l, and the charges for feeding and attendance be reduced by half.,
