In addition to the six city bauds the Saha tion Army Band, which will give its performances at the Dunedin Hospital and the Benevolent Institution, will participate in the subsidy. The taking of all vacant dates iu the schedule will be arranged between the bands. The dates between Sunday, February 23 and March 2, for both the Botanic Gardens and St. Clair have been reserved, and authority given to the Band Contest Committee to allot them during Band Contest Week. The tender of Mr A. Sheather in the sum of £29 17s 6d for painting the Tea Kiosk building at the Botanic Gardens has been accepted. The tender is the lowest of six received. The General Committee will rocomthat the following resolution appointing a motor omnibus- stand for north-boni.d motor omnibuses be adopted viz., “ That a stand for passenger buses for all north-hound bus traffic be appointed in Cumberland street, on the western side thereof, the first vehicle in the line to take up a position iu line with a telegraph pole situate approximately 30 feet from the northern corner of the Queen’s Gardens, all vehicles on the stand to face in a, northerly direction and stand close together one at the rear of the other parallel with the kerb.” An application for a license to establish a smokehouse and cleaning shop for fish in Musselburgh Rise has been declined on the report of the Medical Officer of Health. < The Works Committee will submit the following recommendations:—Playfair and Marion streets: That the offer of the Cavcrsham Presbyterian Church authorities to sell to the council a portion of land_ at thq corner of Playfair and Marion streets for the purpose, of widening such streets at this intersection be accepted, and that authority he granted to the city engineer to put inhand the necessary improvement work which, including concrete wall, K. and G. and tar macadam footway, is estimated to cost £IOO. Willis street and Coates orescent : That the application of the Love Construction Company, Ltd., on behalf of Messrs H. L. Tapley and .Co., Ltd., for a permit to erect a store, on section 23, block LXIII, Dunedin, at the corner of Willis street and Coates crescent be granted, and that pursuant to section 309 By-law No. 1, a modification of the building regulations he approved to penult of two walls of such building being constructed of wood and iron as a temporary ; measure instead of brick or concrete until the balance of the structure is proceeded with, such permission to endure {or a period not exceeding two years." An application by the Gold Band Taxis for permission to erect a kerbside petrol pump opposite their premises in Moray place has been granted on the usual conditions governing such installations. An. application by Mr A. The Electric Power and Lighting Committee will report, with regard to the matter of the disposal of the -plates for the new pipe line, that when the decision was made at the previous meeting of the committee that the plates be sold in England, such decision was immediately cabled by the department to the council's London agents. This course was taken in order to avoid accumulating charges for demurrage, as a portion of the plates had already been sent' to Liverpool for shipment. Authority has been granted the city electrical engineer to arrange for the work of making alterations and additions to the garage building in Ward street, for housing the steam plant, to be done by Messrs Wood and MUormack on a 10 per cent, The work is exceptional, as' it wi|l involve pile driving within the building, and in some cases close to the existing walls, which will . need to be shored. Boring at WaiporiThe boring operations were continued along the pipe line route during the past two weeks without striking any solid rock at a reasonable depth. The operations will now be transferred to a direct line between the surge chamber and the power station. Progress of works at Waipori; The city engineer’s reports detailing the progress made with the various works under his charge at Waipori will be laid on the table. The reports cover—(a) Grouting the conduit at the weir, (If) excavations at Mahinerangi dam, extensions to mess room, erection of plant and cableways, and (c) construction of power station No. 1 and temporary pipe line. The Finance Committee will report: Kaikorai Bowling. Club’s leases: Your committee begs to recommend that the necessary legal steps be taken to resume portion of the leasehold areas controlled by the Kaikorai Bowling Club, which are not required by the lessees. The club controls sections SC, 57, 58, and 59 at a rental of £9 per annum, but is really using only section 58 and parts of sections 59 and 57. It is proposed that a new plan of subdivision be deposited with the land registrar, which would provide for the balance of section 59 being added to the reserve as a playing ground, and the balance of section 57 being added to section 50 as shown on plan laid on the table. A new lessee will probably take up section 50 with the balance of 57. A fair rental to the bowling club under the proposed arrangement would be £8 per year on a lease of 21 years on the existing conditions, and your committee accordingly begs to recommend that the necessary steps be taken to give effect to the proposal as above outlined.
