FALL FROM WHARF. SEAMAN SEVERELY INJURED. (Special to Dailt Truss.) AUCKLAND, August 19. Believed to have struck an anchor when he fell from the Marama at the Central wharf this morning, A. Ellis, a seaman, received a severe head injury and shock. Two waterside workers plunged in to rescue Ellis from the harbour. Ellis is a single man, 27 years of age, and has been residing at the Sailors’ Home. He had been engaged on overhaul work on the Marama, and his fall from the port how is believed to have been through sudden weakness. His rescuers were T. H. Sullivan and L. Lasher. The seaman was unconscious when brought to the shore, and artificial respiration had to be applied. Information from the hospital stated that the exact extent of Ellis’s injuries was not known. HEAD-ON COLLISION OF CARS. (Feb United Press Association.) HAMILTON, August 19, A car driven by Mr R. H. Montgomery, of Auckland, collided at Taupiri yesterday with another driven by Dr Fairclougb, of Auckland. Mr Montgomery, coming from Auckland, was overtaking a third car on a bend when he met Dr Fairclough going north. A head-on collision resulted, both cava being practically ruined. The only person injured was Mrs Montgomery, who was cut about the face by flying glass. She was treated at Ngaruawahia and afterwards proceeded to Auckland. FATAL FALL FROM BOLTING HORSE. (Per United Press Association.) _ WANGANUI, August 19. Agnes Ethel Hyland, aged 1:1, who was thrown from a bolting horse on Saturday afternoon and seriously injured, died this morning. BODY WASHED ASHSORE. CORONER CENSURES HOTELKEEPER. (Per United Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, August 19. ilic body of Peter H. Kennedy, aged 49, a miner, was washed up by the sea yesterday on Blakotown Beach. He bad been missing since July <i from his home at Dobson. An inquest was held to day, and the coroner (Mr W. Meklrnm, S.M.) expressed the opinion that the proprietor of the Bucks Head Hotel, Taylovvißc, was “greatly to blame” for serving the deceased with four drinks when lie was already under the influence of liquor, and allowing him to go home after dark, with nobody in attendance. A verdict of death by drowning through accidentally falling into the river was returned.
