LEAGUE OF NATIONS
THE ECONOMIC COMMITTEE. REPORT ON SUGAR SITUATION. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.)' GENEVA, August 19. (Received August 20, at 1 a.m.) The Economic Committee of the League of Nations in its report on the sugar situation, points out that consumption since the war has increased 44 per cent., while the production has increased by much more, particularly eane sugar, owing to the high prices during the war and immediately after the war. It expresses the opinion that the present 1 difficulties could largely be solved by the industry itself or by the governments concerned. The present crisis had been aggravated by the measures adopted in many countries for stimulating production, without taking into account the repurcussions that nou-co-ordinated measures may have on the world situation. The report concludes by suggesting the desirability of the governments lowering their excise duty without prejudicing their fiscal situations.—Australian Press Association—United Service.
