BIG BUILDING PROGRAMME. CONTRACT LET FOR £96,700. (From Our Special Reporter.) WELLINGTON, August 17. To the Fletcher Construction Company the Council of the Massey Agricultural College has let a contract approximating in value £9C,7pQ for the erection of the new main block of the college buildings on the M'Hardy homestead site at Palmerston North. When the Massey Agricultural College was established the Batchelor and M‘Hardy properties were acquired, and the standing buildings in the latter estate were utilised temporarily for a class rooni and other accommodation. They will now be demolished and will be replaced by a new science block containing lecture i-ppms, research laboratories’, refectory students’ common room and certain staff and residential accommodation.’ It is intended that the new block will house the Dairy Research Institute. The specifications provide fpr a building 140 feet by ICS feet, built to three storeys, the basement in oiie part and two storeys in the other. Thp buildings situated on the Batchelor property will remain in the meantime. ■ The Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) stated to-day that Cabinet had at a meeting on Thursday last authorised the sum necessary to enable the college council to accept the tender of the Fletcher Construction Company for the woyk.
