(Received August 6. at 5.3 p.m.) Passengers who arrived by the Calulu to-day told of life at Vanikoro, an island in the Solomon group. ■ They stated that, five yc&rs ago the estimated -population of the island, waa 6000, but now .it is less than 100, measles and influenza having killed large numbers. Fever was also responsible for a number of deaths. There are about 25 white settlers.
