PORT CHALMERS SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the Port Chalmers School Committee was held on Monday evening, the following members being present;—Rev. W. M. Grant (chairman), E Head, J. Morgan, J. Osborn, W. CoTbert, and W. D. Sutherland.
The matter of providing, funds for equipping the children’s playground with the necessary swings, etc,, came up for discussion. The committee that had been appointed to discuss the question with the Borough Council gave its report in regard to the site allocated and the necessary steps to be taken by the council in connection with the filling in and levelling of the section.
The Visiting Committee reported on its visit to thej school, and was well pleased with the condition in which everything was found. It had also discussed the matter of reviving the school sports with the teachers and was pleased with the manner in which the question had been ;aken up. The teachers promised that later in the year they would co heartily into the matter of sports. The rector reported that the average roll for the past month was 357 and the average attendance 323. Wet weather and sickness affected the attendance verv seriously.
The Rey. W. M. Grant and Dr Edgar woye appointed a Visiting Committee for the' month.
