A request was received that a house allowance should be paid in connection with the Gladstone-Leith Valley charge, pending the completion of a manse.—lt was decided to grant the allowance, the question of the amount to be loft to the Church Extension Committee with power to act. An application for ordination as a deaconess for home mission work was granted to Miss Murdoch (Mosgiel). A letter was received from the town clerk notifying the intention of the City Corporation to take a strip of land from the cornet of the site occupied by the Caversham Church for street widening.— The clerk (the Rev, John Kilpatrick) moved _that_ the Caversham Synod, acting in conjunction with the Finance -Committee, should be granted permission to make the sale and retain the proceeds.-—Car-ried. A (engthy memorandum was read by the Rev. George Miller, expressing appreciation of the services rendered by the Rev. Tulloch Yuille, during his ministry of eight years and a-half at Knox Church, and paying a tribute to bis character ind personal qualifications.—On the motion of Mr Miller, the‘memorandum was adopted in the minutes. FINANCIAL. A financial statement was received from the treasure)' of the General Assembly drawing the' attention of the Presbytery to certain arrears in the contributions due to the Assembly funds. 'The moderator of the General Assembly (the Rev. Professor Hewitson), who was present, suggested that the congregations which were in arrears should be officially notified of the amount of their indebtedness, and a motion to this effect was carried. - Mr Kilpatrick further moved that congregations should be informed of the amount they were expected to raise and contribute budget schemes of the church.—Carried. EARTHQUAKE RELIEF CONTRIBUTIONS. A letter was received from the clerk of the Presbytery of West!and, drawing the attention of the Dunedin Presbytery to the damage suffered,.by the church in the earthquake areas, and suggesting the granting of assistance. Mr Kilpatrick moved that the matter should be commended to the generosity of the congregations. Professor Hewitson stressed the need for an_ authoritative statement as to the condition of the church in those areas. He considered it would have been better if the Westland Presbytery had appealed to the church as a whole, instead of asking the four presbyteries of 1 Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, and Auck'and to contribute relief. , Mv Jupp suggested that an appeal should be made through the Outlook. Mr Tipler said lie would like to add a word Of caution, if. it was intended to move without consulting the Advisory Board, which would meet on August 21. H they were to wait for the meeting there would be reasonable time for Professor Hewitson’s suggestion to be carried into .effect.

Dr E. N. Mei-rington moved as an amendment that the matter should he referred to the Advisory Board. The motion in its_ amended form was then nut to the meeting, and was carried as follows:—“That the, matter of assisting the church in West’and should be commended to the generosity of the congregations. and should be referred to the Advisory Board.”
