Resentment against the attacks of Mr R. -B. Bennett, the Tory leader, on the Australia treaty is growing stronger daily, and a complete cleavage among the Conservatives is reported. A. large delegation interviewed the Tory leader, who is said to have issued an ultimatum to the Provincial Premier (Mr Tolmie) challenging him to debate the merits of the Australian and soekeye salmon treaties.
The figures published to-day show that Canada’s exports'for the year ended June 30 had increased by 147,000,000 dollars, compared with the previous year. The imports increased by 156.000. dollars. The exports to Australia totalled 20,000,000 -dollars, an increase of 0,000,000 dollars. r %c exports to New Zealand totalled 18.000. dollars, an ..increase. of over 6.000. dollars.—Australian Press Association.

(Received August 4, at 5.5 p.m.) 1 Addressing a meeting at Port Albcrn; on Priday night Mr Bennett asked why preference had not been granted to lumber from Canada when the Australian treaty was entered' into. Australia was now buying more lumber from the United States than from Canada.—Australian Press Association.
