DUNEDIN GUN CLUB.

LEISHMAN. CUP COMPETITION. ... first of a series of four matches for the Leishman Cup "sheet” competition was held at the club’s grounds. Green island on Saturday afternoon, when there I'i. aS “ l 'S® attendance of members. Although a cold wind was in evidence, the visitors evinced keen interest in the new Btyle ,°L trapshooting, and the shooters were loth to leave their shooting ground, many practice shots being fired from the different angles at the completion of the competition. . With "skeet” only one cartridge is allowed for each clay bird, but there is a distinct fascination for the shooter, as this new method is natural to field shooting. Two traps are used, and the birds are thrown alternately in the direction of one trap to the other, the distance between the two traps being 40 yards. Aided by the strong wind, the birds from the west trap travelled very fast, whereas the birds from the east trap, thrown against the wind, frequently stopped about midway and slowly dropped. From the seven different positions in a semi-circle, each shooter is given an alternate bird, thus the competition comprises 14 clay birds. 6. B. Ornell (a new member) was the highest scorer with 10 breaks, and other scores wore Cr. E. Turner 9, G. Porter 9, H. Smellie 8, W. M’Breen 8. Several members were not up to the usual standard displayed in ordinary trapshooting, which allows the use of both barrels. Mr Bert Adamson officiated as referee.
