KINDERGARTEN ASSOCIATION.

. MONTHLY MEETING: The council of the Dunedin Free Kindergarten Association held its monthly meeting on Thursday afternoon in First Church classroom, Mrs Phillips presided, and the following were present:— Lady Allen, Mesdames Batham, Brewer, Bundle, Evans, Ewing, Glendining, Haggitt, Hals ted, Hutchison, Jenkins, MacLean, Mollison, Sidey, Wright, and Miss Scott. An appointment of a new director was made in favour of Mrs MacLeod, who last year successfully organised a free kindergarten in Hastings, Hawke’s Bay. It was reported that school attendances had been low during the winter term, hut this was to he esnected. Dr Grace Stevenson was carrying on the annual medical examination of thb kindergarten children. Mr Renfrew White recently made a, medical examination of the children at the Reynolds Kindergarten, and in his report he made mention of minor defects and recommended some preventive measures being taken. He paid a tribute to the buildings, to the ventilation, and to the provision for open air, all of which seemed to him to approach the ideal. The council recommended that Mr White’s offer to arrange a series of classes for the teachers in general activities and physical training work suited to kindergarten children be accepted, and that Miss Dutton make final arrangements. The assistant director of tho MerrillPalmer School, Detroit, U.S.A., Miss Mary Sweeney,' wrote welcoming Miss Emily Macdonald as a student in the coming academic year. Miss Macdonald will leave Dunedin on Saturday for postgraduate study at the school. A bridge drive, organised by Mesdames Mac Lean, Haggitt, _ Henderson, and Jenkins at the “ Vedic,” realised a satisfactory amount. The Mothers’ Club of Kelsey-Yaralla Kindergarten made a successful effort in the form of an “ apron social ” to raise money for books and swings for their children. Subscriptions to the amount of £22 19s fid were handed in, and accounts amounting to £l4l 10s lid were passed for payment.
