Tucked'away in a corner of one of London’s most densely populated districts is a colony of people who would not live in the., finest mansion in the country if it , were . offered to them'rent free. The *’ colony ” consists of 30 caravans in a

yard in a side turning off one of the main thoroughfares in Battersea. At its head is a woman who has lived in a caravan 1 for more than 40 years. Her grandfather ‘ and father also lived in one. “I would sooner sleep on a doorstep than in anything but a caravan.
