USE MORE WOOL

NEW SOUTH WALES CAMPAIGN. j • COMPULSORY LEVY RESENTED. (United Press Association,). tßy Electric Telegraph,—Copyright.) MELBOURNE, July 29. The Victorian wool' growers are in doubt whether a levy will be proposed for the use of the “ use more wool campaign.” The grow-ers arc said to be resenting a compulsory levy. A well-attended meeting of the General Council of the Graziers’ Association of New South Wales on July 25 fully discussed the proposed wool publicity campaign. The New .Zealander, Mr Bernard Tripp, was present as a . visitor. Mr F. H. Tout outlined the proposals, which were unanimously approved. The meeting decided that all possible steps should be' taken ‘ to-bring the proposals into operation at the earliest possible moment. The president was of opinion that a levy rate of half a crown for £IOO on the net receipts for wool w-ould probably be sufficient, but the meeting agreed that .it was advisable' to authorise the committee in charge of propaganda to levy up to ss, on'the understanding that only, sucli amount as was necessary would be actually called up. each year, A suggestion, was made that if scientific research into further uses for wool was found, necessary the cost of this might be borne by the fund, the control of •which should be invested in representatives of. the pastoral industry. The meeting <vas of opinion that a compulsory levy, on wool growers was essential for_ the success of the scheme and - that legislative ♦sanction for this should be Sought. The indications were that other States were increasingly in favour of the scheme, and the fullest co-operation of New Zealand sheep owners was anticipated. Genera! approval had already been given by the Graziers’ Federal Council of Australia, and the committee which is considering the practicability of inaugurating the campaign is expected to report shortly to the Federal Council.-
