WIRELESS BROADCASTING.

IMPROVEMENT OF PROGRAMMES INVESTIGATION TN AUSTRALIA. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, July 29. Having investigated the new system of control in wireless broadcasting in Australia, Mr J. R. Smith, engineer of the New Zealand Post and Telegraph Department, arrived in Auckland by the Aorangi to-day. He has spent about a month in Sydney and Melbourne, and stated that the Federal Government was going in for broadcasting in a big way. “ The results of my investigations will he incorporated in a report to the Government,” Mr Smith said. “ However, people in New Zealand have already had an opportunity of hearing the now programmes that arc being broadcast.” those in charge of broadcasting in Australia were not sparing expense in order to give a good service, Mr Smith continued. Ho understood that large sums were to he spent on the programmes, and those in charge of the technical side were making groat efforts to employ the best men available. Asked whether he thought' New Zealand would consider following Australia’s lead, Mr Smith said it was purely a matter for the Government. Naturally,, he could not make known his views on the subject; hut the fact that he had been sent to Australia to make investigations showed that the Post and Telegraph Department and the Radio Broad casting Company were interested in the developments across the Tasman.
