Due to the state of the* grounds, only .First Grade matches were played on Saturday, The Fletcher Cup competition provided changes in the table of positions, and Technical, who have held the top place for some time, have now, owing to their defeat by Mosgiel, to give way to Scacliff. The latter team’s victory, oyer Maori Hill gives it a one-point lead in. the competition. Only one match remains to be played to complete the second round, Scacliff having to meet Mosgiel, when a win will give them the premiership for the season. Saturdays matches resulted as follows: Seacliff .. .. 2 Maori Hill 1 • • •. 1 Technical .. .. 0 Y.M.C.A 3 Mornington .. 1 Northern .... 4 High School .. I

The following table gives the. relative .positions of the teams in the First Grade:—

SEACLIFF v. MAORI HILL. , A fair -number of spectators witnessed ’.the match .’between Seacliff-and Maori Hill at Logan Park, which was in a water-logged condition. In Seacliff’s team Rogers replaced Baillie at left-back, and Jackson, late of Sunnyside, filled the goalkeeper’s position. The ground conditions were not conducive to good play, but nevertheless, an exciting and interesting game resulted, in which the hospital team showed superiority, and won by two goals to one. Seacliff kicked off, and a miskick by Bayne let_ Simmonds away, a fine centre to goal being cleared by Brown. M'Laughlan returned, but was repulsed by Bayne, who sent his forwards off on the ridit, Rogers and Munsie sending play back, when Callaghan' was forced to give away a corner to save from M'Laughlan. The corner-kick was cleared, Dougall placing nicely for Carse, but the winger was too slow in crossing, and M'Coi-mack and Hooper quickly transferred play to the other end, Callaghan being lucky in clearing a ground shot by Hooper. The resultant corner kick was unsuccessful, and Dougall s long cross to Balk was intercepted by Anderson. Seacliff were having the advantage of the play, and Munsie was playing a great game at centranalt. Anderson was fortunate in clearing a strong shot by Balk, the ball going over tor another unsuccessful corner. Following a throw-in, Munsie endeavoured ,T?C®P en llpp . la 7 to his forwards, and Thompson, Hill s left-half, nipped in on the pass, and drove for goal from about . o yards out. 'Jackson, Seacliff’s goalie, just managed to touch the ball as it W Cd ir TltC> - pet ' ü b dc r the wni i Ma m 1 H,n L Seacliff nil. Hill plajed better after this success, and from a free kick. Balk received, and, running into the centre, drove the ball be«wl e Ti 1 • J , ackson Partially saved, and Halziell kicked across the open goal, but offside brought relief to the defenders. Hill again proved more aggressive. Oliver dropped in a high shot a few yards out from goal; and Dalziel, heating Anderson for the ball, faded to get past Jackson with his shot. From a goal kick Hooper received and passed out to MXean, a low drive by the wipger being pushed round the post by Callaghan. The kick was sent by, and Simmonds followed with clever footwork, in which he beat several opponents and finished with a fine shot, which Callaghan saved brilliantly. Seacliff again dominated the play, and Munsie opened up well to M'Cormack, who had an unsuccessful shot instead of passing out to M'Lean, who was better placed. Anderson and Murray were holding up Hill’s attacks on the left, but Brown essayed a long shot, which Jackson fielded cleanly. Good passing play on Hill’s right, following a clearance by Callaghan, was spoilt by Gorrie getting offside. Play was exciting and keenly contested. Simmonds again showed up with clever ball control, and M'Lean, getting a pass, sent to goal. The inside men were not up, and Callaghan cleared. Murray followed shortly after with a good shot, which Callaghan saved, and also the resultant corner kick. Towards the end of the spell play was more even. Dougall sent well down 1 , and Balk, cutting in nicely, drove in a beauty, which Jackson held safety. Munsie slipped the ball down the centre. Hooper’s pass went out, and from thedhrow in Murray sent Simmonds down the line, when his shot was again well 'saved by Callaghan. Half time was called with play in midfield.

In the opening stages of the second half Hill were the first to attack, Brown sending Dalziel and Balk away on the left. The movement finished by the latter's shot being tipped over the bar by Jackson. A further attack initiated by Oliver enabled Carse to take play-down the line, when Andersofi repulsed an awkward cross; Twice Seacliff swept down, the field, both M'Cormack and Hooper failing with shots. Hill were hard pressed, with Morris, Brown, and Callaghan, in goal, clearing repeatedly. A fine piece of combined play by, Simmonds, Munsie, M'Lean, and Hooper almost brought about a score, both M'Cormack and M'Laughlan failing to place through as the ball travelled across the goal month. Carse was prominent in leading Maori Hill in a couple of attacks, Anderson clearing one and Jackson , saving the other. Fast up-and-down play followed with ihe defence on both sides clearing well, until M'Lean, with a neat overhead kick from a throw in. placed the ball to goal, where Hooper received and bent Callaghan, making the scores 1 all. Hill attacked strongly from the restart. Carse centring for Come to shoot over, and a further attack onened from Brown and Balk ■ ended in M'Corinack clearing. Gorrio was injured at this stage, and retired to the line for several minutes. % Seacliff came awav with concerted play, M'Lean and Hooper being prominent, and -M'Cormack had a shot which slid across the coal and outside. Shortly afterwards M'Lean dropped a pass to goal, which Hooper smartly picked up and gave Callaghan no chance with a good shot. Seacliff 2. Maori H< 1 1 ]. Maori Hill made strenuous efforts to make up leeway, hut the solid play of SeaclifTs halves kept their attacks in check, although Carso made a smart run ami forced Anderson to concede a corner. The kick was well placed, but Brown, who got the clearance, placed oyer. _ Midfield play followed for a spell, with Thompson causing trouble to the Seacliff defence with bis long, well-placed kicks. Murray and Maxwell wore prominent in keeping the Hi'l forwards from breaking through, and the latter sent well down for 'M'Cormack to again narrow'y miss the net. Time was called shortly afterwards with the scores;—Seacliff 2 goals. Maori Hill .. .. ■ .. 1 goal. MOSGIEL v. TECHNICAL. Technical wop the toss, and kicked off from the north end. The ball slipped out of his hands behind him, but before the forwards could get to it the goalie managed to whip _it round the post. From the corner kick M'Cloy cleared, and Proctor returned, Batchelor kicking over. Stevenson, Mosgiel’s centre-half, put in some good work, mid scut out to J.
