CLAY BIRD CHAMPIONSHIP. (Per United Press Association.) NAPIER. July 11. The Now Zealand Clay Bird Championship, phot at Longlands, Hastings, to-day, was won by E. Groome,. of Otane. the president-elect of the New Zealand Gun Clubs’ Association. The winner was the only one of 62 competitors (who included 11 ex-champions) to break the full- number of 21 birds. Seven others, however, secured 20 kills Groome takes £6O and a 10-guinea medal. G. W. Beard (Kimbolton), E. D. M'Lachlan (Masterton). A N. Turner (Christchurch). H. Grennell (Timaru), J. Mills (Hastings). T. S. Harrison (Lower Hutt). and H. A, Quartermain (Hamilton) divided second money (£4O). and Beard won the shootoff for the runner-up trophy. A nine birds’ sweepstake was divided by J. Ormond, R Arnst. G. W. Beard, J. Donnelly. I. G. Watkins. G. A. M’Cullomrh H. E. Knight, I. A. Cripps, R. Anderson. D. Fraser, and W. M'Cullough, all of whom scored the possible. In this srent Messrs Hammond and Turner (Christchurch) _ presented a special trophy, for which extra entrance fees (amounting to 10 guineas) w*ere charged, and will be banded to the earthquake relief fund. R Anderson took the tropbv after shooting to 21 birds..
