ORDERS OUTSIDE DOMINION.
STRONG PROTEST RECORDED “ FLAGRANT BREACH OP TRUST." (Special ,to Dailt Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 8. The following resolution was carried at the meeting of the Canterbury Tracies and Labour Council on Saturday evening:— “In view of the fact that the Government has placed orders outside New Zealand for which no employers in New Zealand were permitted to tender, this council invites the co-operation of the New Zealand Ironmasters’ Federation, the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Association, and unions and associations of workers in the iron trades to join in an effort to prohibit such works leaving New Zealand without having been first submitted to open competition, This work can be done as speedily and as well- here as elsewhere. Further, wc consider that this action of the Government is a flagrant breach of trust which demands a public inquiry. It is aggravated when viewed in conjunction with the fact that New Zealand workers arc unemployed and looking for jobs, and (hat industries are looking for such con tracts. The inconsistency of the Government in dealing with unemployment labels it as an absolute humbug.”
