NEW ZEALAND AIRPORTS.
SUITABILITY OF WANGANUI. (Special to Daily Times.) WANGANUI, June 13. At the meeting of the Wanganui Automobue Association reference /as made to the fact that at its meeting the Chamber of Commerce had agreed to advance the sum of £IOO towards tile establishdent or an airport at Wanganui, opinion was expressed that an airport for Wanganui would be one of the finest things for the district, and that Wanganui was especially lucky in having one of the finest sites in New Zealand. One speaker mentioned how closely allied were motor and air transport, and stressed the necessity for ■ automobile associations doing everything in their power to assist in the establishment of airports and the advance of aviation.
The following motion was carried—- “ That this association strongly supports the establishment of an airport in Wanganui, and that it shows its support in a practical manner by making a donation of £IOO towards tTe construction of a motor road thereto.”
It was mentioned that a ground ad-, jacent to the proposed site of the airport was very suitable for a camping ground, there being a fine bedch which was particularly safe for bathing. .It was resolved that the Roads Committee inspect the locality as soon as possible with n view to selecting a suitable spot for a camping site.
The question as to whether the road to the airport should bp a main highway was mentioned. It was decided that r the association would support any representation in this direction.
