Heavy rain has fallen over o large area of the fanning country. ‘ The downpour in the metropolitan area overtaxed the storm water drains, lifting manhole coven, weighing lewt. Flood water undermined a store until the building collapsed and slid down an embankment. Many basements wert flooded to an extent of six feet, causing heavy damage t* the stock. FIRE IN TIMBER YARD. VERY LITTLE DAMAGE DONE. SYDNEY, May 0. Fire broke out in the timber yards of Smith Bros, at Mascot an hour after the yards were left unwatebed for the first time for some weeks past. The brigades prevented the blaze spreading, and the damage only amounted to about £SOO. It is believed that the outbreak was due to a deliberate attempt to burn the timber.
