RAINS IN ENGLAND

(Received May 6, at 11 p.m.) Steady week-end rains are breaking the. long drought and relieving the farmers’ anxiety. . They lf have, however, transformed the roads i; into veritable death traps for motorists, of whom many had their first experiences of wet surfaces. At least 14 have been killed owing to skidding, due to rain mixing with thick grease deposits left during the dry spell. Many new drivers received their first warning of a skid when , they found themselves ditched.— United Service.
