MINISTER OF RAILWAYS.

VISIT TO BLENHEIM. (Peh United Press Association.) - BLENHEIM, April 27. The Minister of Railways (Mr W. B. Taverner) accompanied by' Mr H. H. Sterling and Mr E. Philips Turner arrived at Blenheim late yesterday afternoon from Murchison after a glorious run. At the civic reception Mr Taverner said he regretted the brevity of his stay, but he promised to return in a few weeks, when he would inspect the route of the South Trunk line. The Minister said the South Island had been neglected in the past, and had not had a fair share of consideration or of developmental expenditure. If the proposed steamer service from Victoria and Hobart to Bluff came to reality in conjunction with the completion of the Main Trunk it would do much to put the South Island on the map. The Minister attended a banquet in honour of the early settlers on the Starborough Estate to-night. He will return to Wellington to-morrow.
