KAITUNA BOWLING CLUB.

CHAMPION RINK ENTERTAINED. There was a large gathering of Kaituna Club members and visitors from other clubs at the Somerset Lounge on Wednesday night, when the members of the rink which won the Adess -Shield (Messrs P. Seelye, H. Smeaton, C. J. Payne, and W. H. Shepherd) were honoured. Mr H. S. Reid (Kai tun a Club president) was in the chair, and gave a hearty welcome to everybody. As at most bowlers’ gatherings proceedings were hearty and jovial, and as the club’s Social Committee knew its business thoroughly the entertainment went smoothly and briskly all the time. The toast list, of course, included the usual council, executive, and visitors’ compliments, and the donor of the shield (Mr G. G, Adess) were not forgotten. The speeches incidental to the toasts were short and happy. Mr W. Carswell, the well-known Taieri veteran skip, proposed the main toast, “ The Winners of the Adess Shield,” in a merry speech, which highly amused his audience. He gave full recognition to the merits of his opponents in the final game, and freely acknowledged that their win was deserved.—The winning skip (Mr W. H. Shepherd) was also happy in his remarks. He said he was naturally pleased at a win over such redoubtable opponents as the Taieri men. His had played well in his support.—The toast was very heartily received. Among the many visitors were Messrs C. J. , Payne (president-elect of the Dominion Bowling Association), Messrs D. M. Pastier and J. J. Marlow (members of the Bowling Council), and Mr R. H. Todd (president Dunedin Centre Executive). The following rendered items:— Songs, Messrs B. Rawlinson and D. Blair; recitations, Messrs Dampen and Allan Young. Mr D. Blair was the accompanist. Opportunity was taken to present the prizes to the winners of club competitions as follows: Champion Singles.—D. Cormaok 1, J. G. Patterson 2. C. H. Hughes Singles.—A. Millar 1, A. Marshall 2. Handicap and Blight Memorial Shield. F. Smith 1, J. Davies 2. ' Junior Singles.—W. P. Forrester, Champion Doubles.—D. Cormack and W. A. Shepherd 1, Dr Rosa and C. J. Payne 2. Club Doubles.—F. Throughout the season the Kaituna players reached a high degree of efficiency in the various centre competitions as the following will indicate:—Champion of Champions, semi-final; Four-rink Championship, runner-up; and Saturday Interclub .Championship, runner-up.
