GENERAL NEWS.
On Wednesday evening, at St Joseph’s Hall, a farewell social was tendered te Rev. , Father M’Mahon, who has Been transferred to Mosgiel. ’ An address was read by Mr Jamqf? O’Neill from the parishioners of Morningtan, Kaikorui, and the Cathedral. The chairman (Mr F. J. Hussey) thanked Father M’Mahon for the great work he had . done during his four years’ service in Dunedin, mentioning particularly his work in connection with the St Vincent de Paul Society and the promotion of athletic sports amongst the younger people. The rev. father was presented with a substantial cheque. In replying, ho thanked all for their kindness to him. during his term, and expressed the hope that his work on the Taieri would be as pleasant to perform. During the evening a concert was provided by Mesdames L. and F. Woods, Misses Winnie and Leslie Comer, K. Whelan, A. Brady, B. Gallien. F. Woods, Rev. Fathers M’Mahon and Gavan, Messrs P. Woods and H. PoppelwolL On Wednesday night the residents ot Highcliff met to welcome Hie new headmaster, Mr Dale, who has been transferred from Romahapa. Mr A. H. Hall, chairman of the School Committee, presided. The following items were contributed Songs—Mrs A. Matbieson' and Mrs J. Farquhar, Messrs D. Robertson, J. Robertson, Hunter, Master Henry Hall; duet, Mr and Mrs J. Robertson; recitations—-Mrs Purdie, Misses Lcxi, Matbieson, and J. M’Curdy; piano solo. Miss G, Hall; violin solos, Miss Brunton; flute solo, Mr S. Robertson ; step dances, Miss Pat Nyhon.
