■ GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE. .. GRANT OF £3OOO APPROVED.' . The Deputy Mayor (Mr J. S. Douglas.) has received the following telegram from Mr W. B. Taverner:— “Cabinet has approved of your request for a grant of £3OOO towards the Flood Relief Fund.” , MOTOR, CYCLE RACES. BENEFIT MEETING TO-DAY. ■ In order to assist flood sufferers the motor cycle section of the Otago Motor Club is holding dirt track races at Forbury Park this afternoon. ,There will be four races during the afternoon, each being run in- heats.' They are as follow:—St. Clair handicap, of. five laps; Ocean Beach handicap, of six laps; open scratch race, of five laps; consolation handicap, of four laps.
