Line steamer Port Curtis left Port Chalmers early yesterday morning fop Timaru to continue Homeward loading. Sho will proceed later to Lyttelton and Wellington to complete loading. The Calm Is due at Dunedin this morning from Bluff to load general cargo. Sho Is to sail this evening for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. The Karetu arrived here yesterday from Lyttelton to load general cargo. She sailed last evening for Bluff to complete loading for Melbourne and Sydney. The Katoa Is now expected at Dunedin on Sunday from Auckland, via porta. Sho Is timed to sail on Monday evening for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. She la duo at New Plymouth on Juno The Coramomvoalth and Dominion Line steamer Port Napier left Auckland on Monday for Wellington and New Plymouth to complete unloading cargo from London. After unloading a full cargo of basic slag from Antwerp at Auckland tho motor ship King Malcolm left the northern port last Saturday for Fremantle. Sho is to load in Australia for India. Tho steamer Ellaston, 5193 tons, has been chartered to load phosphates at Nauru Island for discharge In Now Zealand or Australia. Tho steamer Brockabeck Is now expected to reach Auckland on Saturday from River Plato. After unloading a quantity of cargo at Auckland she will go to Sydney to complete discharge. Tho Atlantic Union Oil Company's tanker Storstcn v. as expected to arrive at Auckland yesterday from Los Angeles. Tho tanker has petrol for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, and Sydney. ——■ THE CITY OF ROUBAIX. Tho A. and A. Line’s chartered steamer City of Koubalx arrived at Wellington last Sunday morning to discharge portion of her New York cargo. She was expected to leave the northern port yesterday afternoon for Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is due here on Saturday. GOLDEN CLOUD FROM AMERICA. Messrs Turnbull, Marlin, and Co. advise that the American steamer Golden Cloud is to leave Wellington on Tuesday for Dunedin to discharge the remainder of her general cargo from Pacific Cotst ports. Tho vessel • should arrive here on April 18. CARGO FROM PACIFIC COAST. The Walruna was expected to sail from Los Angeles on April 8 with Pacific Coast cargo for discharge at Auckland, Napier, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff, and New Plymouth. Sho Is due at Auckland on May 3. ■ ipWESTMORELAND DELAYED. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that tho Westmoreland, which has been delayed in tho north by bad weather, is now expected at Port Chalmers on Monday from Wellington. She will load wool, frozen meat, dairy produce, and fruit, and will sail next Wednesday evening for London, via Panama and Curacao. CAMBRIDGE FROJI LIVERPOOL. Messrs Turnbull, Martin, and Co. advise that tho Federal Lino steamer Cambridge arrived at Auckland on Tuesday afternoon from Liverpool, via Panama. The vessel has general cargo for discharge at Auckland, Kapler, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Port Chalmers. She is due at this port about April 28. - : lONIC LEAVES COLON. The lonic, which sailed from Wellington on March 13 for Southampton and London, left Colon on the afternoon of April 4. ——-—-<«. PORT ALMA AT LONDON. Cabled news has been received by tho C. and D. Line that the motor ship Port Alma arrived at London on the afternoon of April 4 from Wellington. She left Wellington on February 28. CARGO FROM NEW YORK. The C. and D. Line steamer Port Auckland is to leave New York on April 20 with American cargo for discharge at Auckland, Napier, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. ❖ VALACIA TO LEAVE LONDON. The Valacla is scheduled to sail, from London on April 17 for Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, Bluff, and Timaru under charter to tho C. and D. Company. She should arrive at Lyttelton about May 21. SUSSEX LEAVES CALCUTTA. The Union Company has been notified by cable that tho Sussex left Calcutta on April 3 for Rangoon, Penang, Singapore, and Samarang to complete loading for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The vessel, is duo at Auckland about May 11. PORT CAROLINE AT LONDON. The C. and D. Line has been notified by cable that the Port Caroline arrived at London on tho afternoon of April 4 from Welling, ton. She sailed from Wellington on February 23. PASSENGERS BY THE MAKURA. Tho coastal steamer Kennedy, which came to grief at the Manawatu Heads some months ago, and was severely damaged, has been purchased by Messrs Holm and Co., of Wellington, owners of the Holmdale, John, and Progress. The Kennedy has been laid up, at Wellington since her mishap, the damage to her hull being extensive. It is understood that her new owners will dismantle her. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE. The Cimard Lino has had another record year in so far as passenger-carrying numbers are concerned. More passengers crossed the North Atlantic In Cunard ships In 1928 than by any other steamship line or combination of lines —and tills for tho fifth year in succession. The total number carried by the Cunard Lino alone in 1928 was 203,209. The Cunard " Big Three ’’—the Aqultanla, the Berengarla, and the Mauretania—have now for five years in succession carried more first class passengers than any throe steamers of any other line. Tho total number carried last year was 35,374. The Cunard total tonnage to-day is 90 times what It was in 1840—407,859; as against 4516. Cunard and associated fleets represent 966,940 gross tons; or over 200 times the Cunard tonnage of 89 years ago. There were 362 sailings In the regular Atlantic service for 1928. This represents over 1,000,000 miles steamed by Cunard ships In the 12 months. Tho Cunard " Big Three ” alone accounted for S 3 sailings, representing a mileage of nearly 250,000.
