EXTENSION OP ITS ACTIVITIES,
(Peb United Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., February 15,
A new building to house- the Plnnket Society was opened, at Palmerston North this afternoon by Dr Derrick, assistant director Of child"welfare. Dr Derrick stated that Sir Truby King still had visions of further advances that could be made, and was optimistic about being able to carry them, out. Although the infant death rate had been very much, reduced the percentage of deaths was still too'large in the‘first month of life, and in lowering that percentage laj further work for the’ PlUnket societies. He believed that a solution would be found in the care of mothers before the ehild was born. , The society was not forgetting the pre-school child. There wag a tendency to lose trace-of the child from 18 months until school time, but that would be overcome when the-staffs could be enlarged and-they had more money as the result of the.generosity of the public. The building was opened free of debt. The aiinouncement was made that under the .will of Mr Hunter 'Shaw, of Patea, the Palmerston North society had been left £l5O. ■ .'
