PERSONAL.

Ministerial. The Minister of Railways and Minister of Customs (Mr 'W. B. Taverner) is to be entertained by the local branch of the United Party at the Savoy on Saturday night, when he will be made a presentation. , Mr E, Anscombe and his two daughters returned to Dunedin last night after a world tour. Before leaving South Dunedin, where they had resided for many years, Mr and Mrs H. Anderson were tendered a farewell social in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Kensington, last Friday evening. Mr Anderson has been transferred to the Addington Workshops, and is about to take up his residence in Canterbury. The social took the form of a dance, and several vocal and instrumental items were rendered. During the evening, Mr W. B. Ruston handed to Mrs Anderson a travelling rug and to Mr Anderson a shaving set. Messrs H, B. Moller, J. M'C. Dickson, W. Gow, and A. Cable will represent the Otago Harbour Board at the annual conference of the Harbour Boards’ Association, which will this year be held at Auckland on January 30. Captain Coll M'Donald and Mr M'G. Wilkie (the board’s engineer) will accompany the delegates as far as Wellington, and will form part of the deputation which is to wait on the Prime' Minister on January 26 in connection with the movement to have a coastal survey made of the area in the vicinity of the Otago Heads. The Otago A. and P. Society has been advised that Mr E. Baynes, president of the Royal National Association of Queensland, will leave Sydney to-morrow, and he purposes making a tour of this Dominion. Mr Baynes has been actively connected with the Queensland Association for over 35 years, and- for the past six vears has held the _ position of president of that organisation. He is also a member of the. State Stallion Board of Queensland. Mr Baynes is keenly interested in live stock, and holds a reputation as judge, having. acted in that capacity at Royal Shows in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide. The Otago Society is arranging to give him an opportunity of inspecting the stock in this district.
