SIKHS FROM SUVA.
RBSTEICIIONS IN NEW ZEALAND,
(Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 9. From inquiries in official sources it appears that the information in the cablegram from Suva regarding Indians is not based on facts known to the Customs authorities in New Zealand. It is also apparent that the message was sent in ignorance of the conditions under which Indians are permitted to 'come into New Zealand as permanent residents. A permit is necessary. Under the Act of 1920 thov cau land as visitors or for business reasons on proof of their intentions, and that they intend to leave again within six months.
Ihe cable message referred to stated that 150 Sikhs, ■ repudiated from Fiji vvould probably proceed to New Zealand .1 liey had studied in Fiji for the education test of the Dominion, and their fares were being paid by compatriots in New Zealand.
