Mr Percy Shaw, who has been paying a holiday visit to Dunedin, left on his return to Auckland by the raid-day express yesterday. Our Wanganui correspondent telegraphs that, following a short illness, Mr Allan Robinson, a prominent resident of Wanganui, passed away on Monday, at the age of 72 years. Lord and Lady Liverpool arrived in Dunedin from the north by the first express yesterday, and were welcomed at the Railway Station by a squad of Girl Guides, under the district commissioner, Mrs Andrews. The visitors will stay with fcir Lindo Ferguson during their brief visit to Dunedin.

Mr F. M Shorlt, director and manager of Messrs John Chambers and Bon, Ltd., of this city, has been appointed managing director of the company, with headquarters at Auckland. Mr Shortt has just returned from an extended business trip abroad^ On the occasion of his retirement from the National Bank of New Zealand, after 14 years’ service, Mr Angus J, Campbell was the recipient of a presentation of a suit case and a case of pipes from the members of the staff of the Dunedin branch. The manager (Mr P. R. M. Hanna), in making the presentation, referred to Mr Campbell’s sterling qualities and voiced the regret of the staff at losing such an esteemed and capable officer. At file same time he wished Mr Campbell many years of happy retirement and prosperity.

Mr and Mrs E. A. Benjamin, of Sydney, arrived in- Wellington last week with a party of Australian bowlers for the Dominion tournament. Mrs Benjamin, who is a native of Dunedin, has come on south, and is staying with her brother, Mr John Jacobs, Cargill street. Our Invercargill correspondent telegraphs: “The death occurred on Monday, following an operation, of Mr Robert Dunbar Fraser. The late Mr Fraser, who was 36 years of age, was a son of the late Mr Robert Fraser, of Wallacetown. As a youth he started his business career with the Invercargill branch of John Edmonds, Ltd., and after a short period with the Dunedin branch ho was transferred back to Invercargill. He remained with the firm, and ultimately took charge of the builders’ hardware department.”
