AUCKLAND, January 7. The crew of the yacht Victory state they spent four days at Norfolk Island, and after re-provisioning the vessel and taking on fresh water and fruit, a start was made on the return trip at 2 a.tn. last Tuesday after the crew had attended a New Year’s ball arranged by the residents of the island. According to a message received from Totara North, the New Zealand coast was made without difficulty, although dead calms were experienced during the first 3QO miles. Progress was consequently slow, light head winds then added to the crew’s problems, as it was necessary to beat’ against them in a series of tacks during the remainder of the distance to Whangaroa. The return journey occupied five days and a-half, compared with four days taken on the outward trip, and so calm was the weather that the decks of the vessel were never wet.
