The nominations which the Wellington Racing Club received for its summer meeting, to be held on January 22, 24, and 26, are a record in recent years, numbering 013, as against 748 last year, and 733 two years ago. As .usual, the class of hoarse engaged is New Zealand's best. ' - Lucklaine and Double Stint, two Auckland horses who have been racing at the West Coast'‘meetings, will go into N. 0. Price’s stable at Rangjora with a view to competing at other southern meetings. F. Waddell is sending Beacon Light back to his Southland owner, Mr W. I. Hazlett, and will not persevere with the unsound Boniform gelding. Waddell’s team'for Trentham will be Speed Light, King’s Jest, Last .Mark, and Cuticle. ■ Mr J. Ruttledge, the trainer of Pink Kota ’and other horses at Wingatui, was married ,at Invercargill on Saturday. Tommy Dodd struck himself while runningl in the paddock yesterday, and he has been eased up for a few days.. G. J. Pine has eased Silver Coot up for a'week or two and has made another start on Paper Boy and Amourette. Front Rank has changed owners again, having been purchased by Mr H.. Dobson, ahd she has gone into F. F. Claridge’s stable. The Warplane mare is a useful galloper when at her best, and she should pity her way during the autumn, s ßy the Mamma last week there arrived iti. Wellington the two-year-old Rasonli (Bernard—Gipsy’s Warning), purchased by G. Price on behalf of Mr C. Boyle, of Wellington. . Rasouli is a brother to Gipsy King, a good winner in Australia. Star God, dieappointing brother to Star Stranger, won a double at the Hawke’s Bay meeting.. The opposition he disposed of was not formidable, but it looks a a it lie Has .at last struck his real form. - it • transpires that Supremacy was nearly, knocked over at the start of the Royal Stakes on, Wednesday. When he did get going he showed a brilliant burst ofispeed, but it is doubtful if he would have 'had a chance with Honour had he got aWay on terms. ■ ■" ■ Golden Wedding, who proved very troublesome at the start of - her races, in Auckland, has shown the same manners previously, and. she has been recommended by the stipendiary stewards for the schooling list. , - Concentrate got a very bad run in the Great Northern Derby, and he plainly showed on Wednesday when he deadheated with Yertigerh in - the : Grand Stand Handicap that with any luck he would have been hard to beat in the classic event. Concentrate has made great improvement since the spring, and he will be a formidable St. Leger candidate. .T. Green has the notable record of / having won the last three contests for' the Auckland Royal Stakes—on Agrion, Prince Humphrey, and Honour. The former pair 'developed into' Derby,'winners,, so with H on °ur.history has an. excellent prospect of being repeatedGascony was Mr T.. H. By SentiniC. ! . Logan Chief started twice at the Canterbury Park Club’s meeting, but on , each occasion the big pacer raced indifferently and apparently he is not in his beet form at present. ~ The Auckland gelding. Winsome Boy. by. Some Boy ll—Winning Lady, has been purchased by Mr M. O’Brien. He was l brought south by the trotting trainer, W. J. Tomkinson, who will superintend his training in the meantime. Koro Peter, who has been backed several'times ,ef late without winning, won the ’Express Handicap at Greymbuth. The three-year-old has done a good deal of racing for a young trotter, but he seems none the worse for it. He is owned by Mr G... M’Millan, of Auckland, and is trained by R. B. Berry. Koro Peter is by Peter Moko, and was bred in Auok- ' land. ; ; When the trotter Quickfire finished third to Dipnoi and Accumulator at Ashburton oh Boxing Day, it looked as though ho was unlucky not to get' more of the stake money. Quickfire ran second to Koro Peter in the Express Handicap at Greymouth, and later won the Summer Handicap. It looks as though the El Carbine trotter is showing a return to his throe-year-bld form. He won the New Zealand Trotting Stakes in 1027. 1 The thrce-ycar-old Dilworth gave further proof of being a good pacer ,by winning the chirt, event at Greymouth on Friday. She is a very fine advertisement for her sire, Travis Axworthy, as she is a well-gaited pacer, possessing good manners, and although only a tbree-year-old, she gives promise of being an excellent two-mikr, She is owned in Nelson, and L. F. Berkett, her trainer, states that she .had only been in work about sis weeks when she won her first race last October on the same course. Her dam, Muriel Dillon, was bred by Mr E. Lelievre, and is by Harold Dillon from the American mare Muriel Madison. . .Wild Hebe continues to show consistency, He won on the first day at the New, Brighton Club's meetfflg last month, and finished close_ up fbiirth on the second day. On New Year’s Day at Addington he was second to Sarsaparilla, and on the following day was third to Nighboim aud Sarsaparilla. On Friday he was again second, this time to Quickfire at Greymouth. 1 The trotter Katute does not seem as though she is going to be a success. She showed great promise as a three-year-old and won the New Zealand Trotting Stakes in very bad at ’the barrier, and for a long time refused to go away, or if she did leave would not settle down to trot right. Occasionally she did begin right, but she could not stay out a solidly-run race. She started in the Stewards’ Handicap on New Year’s Day at Addington, and after making a good beginning faded right out of the race long before the finish. Kata te is by Nelson Bingen from Muricata. Her sire’s progeny possess plenty of stamina, • and Muricata, her dam, was a rare good trotter, who found two miles no trouble to her. It is stated that Katute will be retired to the stud.

VINCENT JOCKEY CLUB. CONCLUDING DAY’S RESULTS. ' (From Oub Special Reporter.) ■ OMAKAU. January 7. The Vincent Jockey (Jlub’a meeting was concluded to-day, the weather in the early part of the day being fine, but it then became boisterous. There was again a fairly large attendance. Lady M’Kenna was made favourite for the Valley Handicap, in which Broadfield looked a sure winner, but W. Cooper appeared to be caught napping, and was beaten by Green Cloth. The stewards “carpeted” Cooper, and he was told to be more careful on the Vincent course in future. Town Major started in strong favour for the Cambrian Hack Handicap, but he struck trouble after going about two furlongs and a-bal£ by getting on the heels of another horse when moving up. Battle Screen fini.hed strongly, and won nicely from Gay Fashion, with Barney Google a close third. Cormiach went out a strong fancy for the Manuherikia Trot, but broke up badly in the race. Patch Junior broke his gear. Wee Daphne raced to the front inside of the first six furlongs, and was never seriously challenged during the rest of the journey. Martis started a good favourite for the Lauder Handicap, carrying more than twice the support accorded to Carnot, who started second favourite. They fought out a good finish, which they had to themselves, and a final call on Martis saw him win by a short head. :Town Major was a strong order for the Clare Memorial by the public, but they fot a very poor run for their money. Lady lizzie was seemingly allowed to establish a big lead, which made her a present of the race. The race has been placed on the programme as a tribute to the memory of the late .Mr John Clare, who was for many years a prominent' figure in the Central Otago sporting world, fi. Anderton was fined £2 for looking round in the straight, when half a dozen lengths in front of the others. It would have been more in the interests of racing if Mr Currie, the stipendiary steward, had asked for an explanation of the very marked contrast in Town Major’s form as compared with that of the first day. It is ■understood .that a satisfactory explanation would have been forthcoming, but pven so those concerned should have been accorded the opportunity of giving one. The card was brought to a conclusion with a good betting race on the Dunstan Hack Handicap. Attract was favourite, but he was all out to stall off Broadfield at the .finish, t During the day £4214 went through the totahsator, making £B4ll 10s for the meeting,, as compared with £8202 10s last year. , ■Following are the results:— VALLEY HACK HANDICAP, Of 55sovs. One mile. 3 —Mr R.
