BRITAIN AND RUSSIA
TRADE AGREEMENT POSSIBLE.
BETWEEN PRIVATE INTERESTS.
/ (United Press .Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.)
LONDON, December 13. (Received Dec. 15, at 1.30 a.m.) There is a possibility of representatives of British trade.going to Russia at no distant date to investigate AngloRussiau trade. It is a curious situation, as the Government definitely maintains its previous attitude that it will not consider resumption of the diplomatic relations except .under the terms stated when they were broken off, which would involve Russia in initiating the question of resumption and giving an undertaking, to cease propaganda in the Empire. Oil the contrary, Government circles pointedly reiterate their anxiety not to place obstacles in the way of legitimate trade, and it is more or loss admitted that a trade agreement could he arranged which would, not involve a, resumption of diplomatic relations. . ■■ It appears that a certain section of the Conservatives, comprising the younger and more progressive members, arc bringing pressure on the ' Government. It is certain that the. Government will not officially act, but a trade agreement would appear to be possible between private interests.. There will be no objection, as undoubtedly certain members of the Cabinet, sympathise therewith, especially those who have not become reconciled to the trade rupture. —United Service.
