GAELIC SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting cf the Gaelic Society was held last evening jn - the Oddfellows’ Hall, Stuart street. There was a good attendance of members and friends, presided over by Chief W' H. M‘Leod; assisted by Chieftains Roderick MaeKenzie and Thomas, Ritchie. Mr W. Brown, a past president of the Burns Club, was welcomed by the chief and invited to' a seat on the platform. Before commencing the programme Chieftain. Roderick MaeKenzie made o'* presentation of a sash of -the Royal Stuart tartan to the Gaelic Society, the sash to be worn as a badge of office by the chiefs. At the • close of the meeting Chieftain Thomas Ritchie made sympathetic reference to the . serious illness of the King, and the meeting passed a motion of sympathy with the Queen and members of th Royal Family, and expressed the hope that he would soon be restored to his former health and strength. The programme, which was well received, Consisted of the following items:—Mrs M. J. Mackay, Gaelic song and song “ Four .Marices”; Misses P. and G. Steel, fling; Mi A. McLennan, Gaelic songs (“ An t’Eilean Muileach ” and “ M’leannan ”; Mr George Currie, “Lochnagar" and “ There’s a. Wee Bit Band ”; Miss Olive Scot, Libby Hayden, Doris Mackie, and J. M'Donald, the reel; Mr M. Johnston, “The Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond ” and “ The Wee Hoosc ’Maug the Heather ”; Mr James Evers, violin selections, “Be Kind to pid Jeannie,” and “Ye Banks and Braes ”f' Mrs R. M'Rao, Gaelic song, “ M’Challin ” and “My Own Land”; Mr George Swan, “ Bonnie Mary of Argyle,” “ My Mither,” and “ Mary ”; Miss Olive Scott and Mrs L. Hayden, sennntrubllns; Mr Campbell, Gaelic song. ’ ’ As it was the last meeting of the year, the chief wished ail present a happy and prosperous new year. The proceedings closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
