COMMITTEE REPORTS. The Works Committee will recommend to the meeting of the Citv Council on Wednesday night that the application for consent to a proposed right-of-way over part allotments 13 and 14, Hopetoun estate, fronting Glen avenue, be granted, subject to the .purchaser of the property (Janies Sydney Faulkner) entering into an agreement to form, metal (or, at the option of the council, asphalt), light, drain, and maintain the right-of-way to the satisfaction of the council. The committee will also recommend that permission be granted the Australasian Automatic Weighing Machine Company, Ltd., to erect a small type weighing machine in King Edward street, near CargiU’s corner, subject to the usual conditions laid down by the council, and to the payment of the prescribed rental of £3 per annum in advance.

Ah application from the Wanaka Motors, Ltd., for permission to erect two kerbside petrol pumps at its new premises (formerly Shiel’s garage) in Stafford street has been granted, subject to the usual conditions laid down by the council and to the payment of the prescribed rental of £lO per annum in advance for each pump. Authority has been granted for tenders to be called for the purchase of a small petrol-driven footpath roller. The city engineer has been instructed to act with regard to .the following matters : —Forming a four-foot wide tarred macadam footway from the Esplanade, St. Clair, to the existing tar macadam at the baths entrance. The estimated cost is £3B, of which the" St. Clair W provement Society has agreed to bear one-third part. This estimate allows for shifting the existing fence nearer the sea, wall", thus giving about 12 inches more roadway. Forming a screenings path four- feet wide, with necessary earth work, on the Portobello road between Anderson’s Bay road and the first bend at, an estimated cost of £3O. Constructing a concrete retainirig wall along the whole length of the frontage of the property of .Mr C. G. Shand in Bedford street, estimated cost £63.„ Constructing tarred macadam footway in Elgin road between Gardner street and the steps, at an estimated cots of £7O. RESERVES COMMITTEE.

The Reserves Committee will report as follows has been decided to invito fresh tenders for the lease of the Tea Kiosk at the Botanic QanUus.

An offer which was made to the district engineer, Public Works Department, of Is per cubic yard for all clay and suitable material from the Old Post Office site delivered at the Oval, Princes street south, has been accepted. It is understood that about" 1000 loads of material are available.

Authority has been granted for the supply-and fitting at the crematorium of a suitable cabinet in accordance'with a "design prepared by the building surveyor, for the purpose of depositing urns of ashes in cases where relatives of the deceased so desire. Provision for such an arrangement was made in the cremation by-law. The estimated cost is £32. GENERAL COMMITTEE. The General Committee will recommend the following remit to the next Municipal Conference—“ That the Government bo urged to amend section 27 of ‘The Slaughtering and Inspection Act’ bjr the addition of the following sub-sections:—(a) It shall be the duty of the licensee of a meat export slaughterhouse to supply to 1 the controlling authority of any abattoir a statement setting forth full details of all meat forwarded from such' meat export slaughterhouse to any vendor of meat within any such abattoir district. Such statement shall be supplied at" least, once each month and shall contain the date of such supply, the number of carcasses or portion of carcasses forwarded, and the name of the vendor to whom such meat was supplied, (b) Sec--tion 27 of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting the word “ seven ” from the second proviso and substituting the word “ten.” FINANCE COMMITTEE. The Finance" Committee will recommend that the Mayor (or in the event of his inability to attend, the Deputv Mayor), and Councillor Wilson, be appointed to be the council’s delegates to the next conference- of the Municipal Association to be held in Wanganui during the first week in March, 1020. Now that the council has a contract for all car hiring, arrangements have been made whereby the authority to engage cars is to be limited to the Mayor, the town clerk,. and heads of departments. Suitable dockets for signature" by the hirer are being issued to the contractors for issue to their drivers.
