A deluge of rain at about 2 a.m., accompanied by loud thunder-claps, brought the rainfall for 24 hours up to ,02in. In the Police Court to-day, Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., made an order for the extradition to Suva (Fiji) of George Francis Shaw, described as a dealer, on seven charges of obtaining goods and money, totalling £126, by valueless cheques. The limited arrived at Auckland from Wellington nearly two hours late owing to a hot box developing on one of the De Luxe sleepers between Palmerston North and Mar ton. HOKITIKA, September 24.
Under the auspices of the United Fire Brigades’ Association a highly satisfactory water test of the Hokitika borough water supply was carried out by Captain Watts, advisory superintendent, and the Hokitika Fire Brigade. The demonstration has been definitely settled to be held on Cass square, Hokitika, in the last week of February next.
