HER HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY.
LOOKING BACK ON LIFE,
CRITICISM OF PRESENT-DAY
DRESS,
(Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, August 30,
“ The main pleasure of the people to-day—their late suppers and late hours—are the causes of bad health and doctors’ bills,” said Mrs William Onniston, of Onehunga, to-day, her hundredth birthday.
Bright of eye, rosy-cheeked, and clear complexioned, Mrs Ormiston is able to walk without a stick and has robust opinions concerning diet- and women’s dress. “ Short skirts! ” she said. “ The parsons should preach aginst them. It’s perfectly horrid. It’s not lady-like and it’s rubbish to say that wearing them is healthy.” Her good health she ascribes to simple diet, with wholemeal bread as a foundation.
