The accident at Awakaponga last week, resulting in the death of Mr Ernest Edward Frost, aged 37 years, a tractor driver, engaged by New Zealand Flax Securities, Ltd., occurred through a tractor striking some soft, swampy land with the front wheels and turning completely over. Mr Frost was pinned to the ground. Other workmen witnessed the accident and hurried to render assistance, but it was impossible for them to move the tractor, and the services of another tractor had to ho obtained before the unfortunate man could be extricated. He was evidently suffocated through being embedded in the swamp for about 20 minutes. Dr Barraclough, of Matata, was immediately summoned, but all efforts to resuscitate Frost proved unavailing.
