MACANDREW BAY NOTES.

The monthly meeting of the committee of the North-East Harbour Ratepayers’ Association was held on Monday evening, when Mr A. M'Cutchon presided. It was resolved that the secretary should write to the Postmaster-general stressing the need of a post office in the district. Mention was made that there was no complaint iu the matter with the present agency, but that the district warranted a regular service. It was also resolved to draw the County Council's attention to the grave danger of a certain derelict car being left on the roadside for some weeks past. It was a great temptation to children playing ou it, and no pilot light was placed on the obstruction at night to warn passing traffic. It was resolved to alter the association boundaries to make Company’s Bay residents eligible for membership. The Macandrew Bay “ Busy Bee ” birthday party was held in the hall last Friday. This movement was started six years ago, under the guidance of the lady members of the Presbyterian Church, but is purely undenominational, and is open to all the children who can toddle along to the meetings. The motive is to teach the little “ Bees ” to get busy and help other children in poorer circumstances than themselves. The queen is Miss Frances Marett, who has a very efficient secretary in Rowena Ross, w-ho, under the guidance of Mrs Morley and others, has taught the little ones to make many useful garments and toys out of old stockings and remnants. These are sent to the orphanages and Maori missions. During the evening a grand march was held for the judging of the fancy dresses, and it was a difficult task to allot the prizes, which were as follow: —Open to all—most original girl, Dulcie Goodlet (archer); boy, Bobby Hook (jockey). For " Busy Bees ” —girl, Miss Collins (blackbird); boy, Bertie Childs (rooster). Specials—Misses Collins and West (bride and bridegroom), 1; Rona Allan (thistle), 2; Evelyn MEvoy (rainbow), 3. Extras —Sheena Allan (tengevine) and Willie Fountain (pirate). Before the evening ended the Rev. Air ArCarthuv thanked all the ladies w-ho had helped to make such a success of the “ Busy Bees.” The library continues to supply many fine volumes to the subscribers, and the privilege is taken full advantage of by the 75 members. What appears to be an attack of fireblight has caused many of the bluegum trees On the Peninsula to look as if they had been scorched by fire.
