(Special to Daily Tuies.) WELLINGTON, August 28. A purely statistical and non-policy reference to junior high schools is made by the Minister of Education (Mr R. A. Wright) in the annual report he presented to Parliament to-day. The Minister states that there were eight junior high schools in operation during the year, as against six in the previous year". The total number of children enrolled at the end of 1927 was 2290 as against 1887 at the end of 1926. There were 635 boys and 519 girls in Form I, 576 boys and 532 girls in Form 11, and 63 boys and 75 girls in Form 111. The ages of the pupils give the following comparison:—Under 11 years, 36 boys and 30 girls; 11 and under 12, 172 boys and 189 girls; 12 and under 13, 371 boys and 355 girls; 13 and under 14, 390 boys and 342 girls; 14 and under 15, 228 boys and 157 girls; 15 and over, 77 boys and 53 girls. In Form II 93S pupils (501 boys and 437 girls) gained proficiency certificates in 1927. The number in Form 111 was 23 (13 boys and 10 girls). In regard to the destination of pupils the Minister shows that 56 per cent, of the boys and 58 per cent, of the girls continued full-time education. Nine per cent, of the boys and seven per cent, of the girls intended to follow commercial careers, 12 per cent, of the boys and 3 per cent, of the girls trades, 8 per cent, of the boys agricultural or pastoral pursuits, and 8 per cent, of the boys and 25 per cent, of the girls home occupations.
